At Our Chapter
Launched in 2018, the Kolkata Chapter of SVP India fosters social impact through engaged philanthropy, bringing together Partners, nonprofits and volunteers in a collaborative community. A key milestone that the chapter celebrated was 'Setu', its flagship annual philanthropy event launched in 2023, which has mobilised significant funding for grassroots organisations.
Another distinctive initiative is Youth for Philanthropy, which gives management students hands-on experience with portfolio nonprofits while building their understanding of the social sector. What makes the chapter special is its close-knit, family-like culture, built on trust, warmth and shared purpose, with initiatives such as the Shakti group and Young Partners’ Circle nurturing deeper connections.

"I am constantly aware of my responsibility to contribute back to the society that has given me so much. I have also learnt that every small bit we do can make a difference in someone’s life. What drew me to SVP in the first place was the realization that if my own small contribution could make a difference, the combined impact could be much larger if I linked up my effort with those of other people having the same mission. I think SVP provides the perfect platform for this by bringing together many different individuals, often geographically separated, yet committed to addressing and solving complex social issues. I feel the biggest commitment I can make to SVP is my time which, as a result of all that I’m involved in, is my most valuable commodity. Being a part of SVP gives me the personal sense of fulfillment of being part of a group that gets together to make a difference a in the lives of people we support by making them self-reliant. At the same time, it also allows me the opportunity to interact with some great likeminded people I would not have know otherwise."

What I discovered with SVP was the rigor they used to examine nonprofits. Partners’ contributions and support extended to nonprofits were monetary and dipped into each partner’s experience, expertise, and interest. Best of all, the partners were people from various backgrounds who conjoined towards one purpose – how to make a difference.
Ravindra Chamaria

From being one of the most encouraging partners when SVP Kolkata had nothing to showcase on the ground to helping Mitti Cafe find space for their first outlet to numerous connects and engagement opportunities to a masterclass on fundraising, I feel proud to have contributed to the growth of the chapter.
