At Our Chapter
Established in 2012, the Bengaluru Chapter is the founding chapter of SVP India, bringing together Partners committed to supporting meaningful social change. Rather than focusing on a single impact area, the chapter supports diverse initiatives through collective effort and engaged philanthropy.
A memorable milestone of the chapter is its key event 'SETU', organised over two consecutive years to bring people together and foster meaningful connections. What truly makes Bengaluru special is its Partners, whose warmth, kindness and willingness to support one another create a strong sense of camaraderie. This spirit of community underpins the chapter’s collaborative approach to working with nonprofits and advancing social impact.

"I returned from Hong Kong in 2017 to establish a Fintech platform to help drive credit inclusion in the MSME segment. After returning, one of the things I wanted to do was to be involved in supporting the non-profit segment. SVP provided an opportunity to be part of a team which allowed for both monetary and time contributions while working directly with non-profits. Over the last 2 years, I have been involved in onboarding Kshamata as an investee while being involved in mutiple initiatives which could help improve the performance of our investee organizations. The experience is continuously enriching and it is deeply satisfying to see the positive impact of our efforts on the investee organization and their beneficiaries. For me this is a start of the journey with SVP and quoting from one of my favorite poems - I have 'promises to keep before I sleep."

I believe philanthropy should start early in life and not after retirement. In India, each of us is taught to help the poor and those who are less fortunate when we are young. As India scales, a more structured approach to giving is required, and critical causes need to be funded well and require nurturing. SVP provides that platform for a well-thought-out approach to creating value via partnerships with NGOs. I’m excited to get started.

Nudge Foundation was a very stimulating and impactful experience since it was in its nascent stage. My previous Lead Partner had done a great job helping Nudge take off. I could advise them on scaling up the process with Team Building and Process Improvement. In my current role, sitting on the Grant and Grant Review Committee, I like the passion backed by the good intention of our Lead Partners in nurturing and supporting some early-stage NGOs and some matured NGOs who could not scale up.

"I joined SVP by accident. I ran into Akila, who was the Chair of SVP Bengaluru at that time, and she convinced me to join. I came back to India after living in the US for nearly two decades. The in-your-face poverty in India and all the issues faced by various underprivileged sections of society affected me deeply. I didn't know how I could get involved and make a meaningful difference. When Akila talked about SVP, it seemed like a good place to start. From the very first chapter meeting, I knew that I was in the right place. I was really impressed with all the partners I met. Their passion, commitment and ability to make impact really inspired me. SVP opened the door to the social sector and gave me an opportunity to explore and learn. Through SVP, I was exposed to several NGOs and leaders in the field who are doing amazing work. I went on several field visits, met with end beneficiaries and got actively involved in a few of our investee projects. This helped me gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by our beneficiaries and our investees. I have been involved in various projects, some that were a big success and some that didn't quite work out. I have learnt that the key to success is the people involved. I am excited to be part of SVP, because SVP has the people with the right mindset, commitment and capabilities to have high scale impact. Joining SVP is one of the best things that has happened to me. I consider myself extremely lucky to be part of this fantastic partnership."

SVP has been a wonderful experience - it is a platform to get engaged. Initially, it was to understand what was happening in the NGO sector so that I could cross-pollinate with what I was doing at work. This was done by attending the partner sessions. Then I joined a couple of groups - healthcare, etc. I found it very time intensive and it gave me a good idea of the challenges of scaling. Which I again took back to my workplace. Last year I became part of the India-level Fast Pitch program - as part of steerco, the framework for judging, coaching NGOs, and getting more people to attend. Currently one of the lead partners’ for Make a Difference.

What our Partners and Nonprofits say
Padmashree Balaram

For an utterly non-corporate person, I was daunted to be around people who have spent years in boardrooms. It, however, turned out to be a fantastic experience for me. Learning new tech skills, making presentations, articulating my ideas, and working in a team made me confident. I am happy to be a part of this network of engaged philanthropists.
BS Shantharaju

I love the intention and energy of many Partners who have brought substantial intellectual depth to SVP. My experience with Nudge Foundation was stimulating and impactful as I could advise them on scaling up the process. I like the passion backed by the good intention of our Lead Partners in nurturing nonprofits.
Ravi Venkatesan

We wanted to create a community or platform for many leaders across sectors to engage, and SVP has done beyond that. It has been gratifying, and I have grown in understanding what it takes to solve even the slightest problems. I have honed many skills, and the SVP experience has directly led to my work with GAME, Unicef, and GEAPP.
Abubakar Koya

The Lantana project was fascinating for all of us. It was a new initiative, and we were involved with ATREE in all aspects of projects, from business plans to product design to the manufacturing process, and finally, bringing our market connections to play. It was very satisfying for all those involved in the project.”
Anjana Kaul

The Tide team is very self-aware and focuses its energies on its expertise. They were also open to connecting to different organizations for help in which they didn’t have the expertise, and for me, it was very refreshing. I have enjoyed working with them and learned a lot from this experience.
Arnab Bhattacharya

Being a part of this team has been continuously enriching, and it is deeply satisfying to see the positive impact of our efforts on the investee organization and their beneficiaries. For me, this is the start of the philanthropy journey with SVP, and quoting from one of my favorite poems – I have ‘promises to keep before I sleep.
