Lead Partners not only gave the organization confidence to a leap into this new mission but also helped design a roadmap to reach the goal. Expert connects with organizations that have successfully designed and implemented such trainings were facilitated by partners with personal inputs on how the program could be modified to suit the Ahmedabad ecosystem. Currently, four industries have been identified with jobs that can be taken on by individuals with ID. Moreover, partners gave a lot of clarity to Prabhat on what criteria should be set in place for workplace selection. Simple steps have been set in place and learning shall be closely documented for the program to eventually scale.
Prabhat Education Foundation serves children and adults with special needs, helping them to achieve their full potential in and around Ahmedabad. When Prabhat began its journey in 2003, the widespread reality of physically and mentally challenged children in and around Ahmedabad became apparent, and Prabhat moved into serving special children, as well as their families affected by stigma, ignorance and denial. Realizing the need for access to care, education and learning of this group, Prabhat conceptualized an institutional facility to provide systematic rehabilitation services that could be accessible for those challenged by poverty and mobility. Working with and through local communities became Prabhat’s hallmark.

Stonesoup Trust

SVP has worked with Stonesoup on two projects, providing support on product innovation, testing, design and access to funding. One initiative created livelihoods for rural women in Karnataka by equipping them to make cloth sanitary pads. In addition to creating products for their own use, awareness and community cleanup, they were plugged into the Stonesoup supply chain. This model has been scaled substantially and Stonesoup pads are available now on Amazon, Health and Glow and other e-commerce platforms. This provides a very high impact, low-cost model with sustainable returns for the women being trained.
A second initiative is solid waste management in aid of greening Bangalore. Stonesoup works closely with the government and administration through SVP. Both were new models that subsequently, with SVP support, attracted funders, partners and have since scaled significantly to other cities across India.
Just like the fabled Stonesoup story, where the entire village contributed to the making of a healthy soup, we hope to realise the dream of a zero-waste world by getting every citizen to contribute by making a sustainable choice. Most people want to do the right thing, when it is convenient. We want to make sustainable living an easy choice for the majority.
